"Rushing To The Edge"
oil on canvas
36 x 30
"There is a place not far from here where the jagged cliff face
of this island thrust fourth to meet the force of the Salish Sea.
Howling gales and crashing waves have, over the millennia,
carved off chunks of this volcanic remnant and left those
pieces strewn on the bottom below,
where the waves boil and crash among them
rushing to the edge.
It is at once a place that you feel in your belly
as much as see with your eyes.
The forces and beauty of the west coast are in grand display here.
It is hard to leave for fear that the connections you feel while
standing there might be broken.
You can sense the spirits of those human beings
who first left footprints in this place in the long ago time."
